Live mochi pounding from Tokyo

Fresh-pounded mochi,
live in your city.

A wooden mortar, a 90 cm mallet and a crew from Japan. We pound steamed rice into mochi right in front of your guests, wrap it around fresh fruit, and hand it over while it's still warm.

Already pounding on the streets of Tokyo.

Our mortar rides on a folding cart, so the show sets up anywhere — a waterfront deck, a shopping street, a crossing in Kabukicho.

The show

Five steps, one crowd.

It's not a snack counter — it's a performance people stop for, film and share.

  1. 01

    Steam

Glutinous rice is steamed on site.

  2. 02

    Pound

“YOISHO!” — the crowd joins the call.

  3. 03

    Shape

Torn and rounded by hand while it's hot.

  4. 04

    Fill

Wrapped around fresh fruit and sweet filling.

  5. 05

    Cut & serve

Sliced open to show the cross-section — made for the camera.

Each round starts at a set time — the countdown is what gathers the crowd.

FAQ

Questions from hosts

How long can you perform?

It's flexible — from a single show to a multi-day pop-up. Tell us about your event by email and we'll suggest a plan that fits.

Which languages do you work in?

English and Japanese. We prepare menus and signage in the local language for each city.

Do you ship the mortar abroad?

We rent a wooden mortar locally whenever possible, and arrange shipping when it isn't.

Is mochi safe for every guest?

Mochi is very chewy. We serve it in bite-size pieces, post a “chew well” notice and show allergen information in the local language.

How much does it cost?

Every event is different, so we quote each one individually. Email us your date, city, venue and number of guests, and we'll send you a quote.
